EU stands up for parallel trade in cars

This is excellent news for European consumers:

The French car manufacturer Peugeot has been found guilty by the European Commission of preventing EU buyers from buying cheaper Peugeot cars from the Netherlands, in order to import them to their respective countries.

The methods used by Peugeot's Netherlands subsidiary involved a discriminatory bonus payment system, whereby dealers were denied a bonus for selling to non-Dutch resident customers. In addition to this, the manufacturer threatened to restrict deliveries to dealers who sold more cars for export.
